From the playwright:

There is no greater curse than to be sentenced to an impossible task, alone. Fortunately, X and Y have each other. What they’re doing, even they don’t fully understand. But they know they must continue. They must complete their task before the whippoorwill calls and they close their eyes forever.

Def and Fed also have each other. Their task, a little more straightforward. They are tasked with retrieving a dead body in the desert outside of their town. What they weren't told, is who the body belongs to.

In Whippoorwill Calls our characters navigate perils and danger with nothing more than each other for guidance.

Epheverie Theatre Company is excited to be co-producing this exciting new musical as part of the 2026 SheNYC Festival!

From the writers:

Being Asian is one thing. Being a woman is another. But being a queer Asian woman in the arts?
Lucy wonders if it can get any harder. She dreams of being the trailblazer—the Michelle Yeoh, the Lucy Liu... even the Anna May Wong. But in 1935, Anna May Wong, the troubled Chinese American star, dreams of being a brat girl like Lucy, living 100 years in the future. Then, it's a deal. When they swap lives, will rewriting history change their fate—or completely ruin each other’s lives?
Wong Side Of Time is a time-bending musical that follows two rebellious queer women—Anna May Wong, the pioneering Chinese American movie star, and Lucy, a modern-day Asian queer artist. Set between the glitz of 1935 Hollywood and the vibrancy of 2025 Los Angeles, the musical explores their shared struggles, desires, and dreams, as they navigate the complexities of being Asian American women. Through their swapped lives, they discover strength, solidarity, and the power to rewrite their own stories.
